The Crunchbase MCP server connects AI assistants directly to live Crunchbase data. Using the Model Context Protocol, an open standard supported by Claude, ChatGPT, and every major AI platform, your team can research companies, analyze funding activity, and build sourcing lists through natural conversation, with every answer drawn from Crunchbase.

What you can do

Anything you can ask of Crunchbase data, you can ask through your AI assistant. Some of the ways teams use it:

Research any company in seconds. Ask for a pre-meeting brief on a target and get funding history, leadership, and competitors in one response, sourced from the profile your team already trusts.
Screen and source at scale. Describe your thesis in plain language ("US fintech companies that raised a seed or Series A in the last 60 days") and get a filtered list, not a summary of one.
Analyze funding and investor activity. Trace who's investing in a space, how round sizes are trending, and which portfolios are most active.
Map market landscapes. Build a view of a segment, assess how crowded or funded it is, and identify the companies your keyword searches would miss.
Turn research into pipeline. Save results directly to Crunchbase lists, so what your AI assistant finds becomes a shared asset your team monitors, not a chat transcript that disappears.

These are just starting points. Because your assistant composes tools freely, workflows we never anticipated work too: combine Crunchbase with your CRM through another connector, monitor a watchlist on a schedule, or enrich a spreadsheet as you build it.

How it works: Expert and structured tools

The server gives your AI assistant two complementary ways to work with Crunchbase data.

Expert tools handle plain language. Ask a question and the expert tools answer it with live data, or translate your description of what you're looking for into a precise Crunchbase search, no query syntax involved. This is the fastest path for exploratory questions and one-off research.

Structured tools offer precision and repeatability. Your assistant can look up a specific company, person, or investor; run exact searches with explicit criteria across stage, geography, dates, amounts, and dozens more fields; and create and manage Crunchbase lists. These are the building blocks for workflows you'll run again and again.

All of your Crunchbase data

Everything available through the Crunchbase API is available through the MCP server: the same company profiles, funding rounds, people, investors, and acquisitions, plus Crunchbase predictions and insights. Most data providers expose only a narrow slice of their platform through MCP; Crunchbase gives your AI assistant the full surface.

Supported AI tools

The server works with Claude (web, desktop, and Claude Code), ChatGPT, VS Code with GitHub Copilot, Perplexity, Mistral Vibe, and any client that implements the current MCP specification. Setup takes a few minutes; see Connecting AI Tools for step-by-step instructions per client.

Access

MCP is purchased per workspace and access is assigned per user as an MCP seat by your workspace admin. An MCP seat includes Crunchbase's highest level of data access, including predictions and insights. Users connect by signing in with their own Crunchbase account.
