Interpreting prediction scores

Overall probability

probability_score is a number between 0 and 1; for example, 0.8 represents an 80% probability of the outcome described by the prediction type. It has no fixed prediction horizon: it refers to the outcome occurring at any time after generated_on.

Timing probabilities

Acquisition, Closure, Funding, and IPO predictions also expose probability_score_timeseries. Each value represents the probability of the event occurring during the named month interval, measured relative to generated_on. For example, months_06_to_11 refers to months 6 through 11 after that date, rather than a cumulative probability through month 11.

The standalone probability_score is rescaled separately. Do not calculate it by summing the time-series values or assume a direct mathematical relationship between the two.

Growth, Layoff, and Remain Private predictions do not expose probability_score_timeseries.

Reference date

All seven prediction types expose generated_on, the date on which the prediction was generated. Use this date as the reference point for the relative month intervals.
